Why This Card Matters
Four sentences on the back, and every one carries a number: “Strider finished fourth in the 2023 National League Cy Young Award balloting. The right-hander fanned 281 batters — 44 more than anyone in Baseball — and was the sport’s only 20-game winner. His slider, which had a 53.3% whiff rate and a .154 opponents average, was nearly unhittable.” A 53% whiff rate on a single pitch is the kind of figure that explains a season on its own. Spencer Strider stands 6'0" and 195 pounds, throws and bats right-handed, and was born 10-28-98 in Columbus, Ohio; home is Knoxville, Tennessee. Atlanta drafted him in the fourth round in June 2020 and he debuted on 10-1-21.

| Condition | Raw, ungraded, and this one has the most to disclose of the Strider group. The design is full-bleed so there is no border to measure; the elements sit roughly centred. Corners look sharp with no rounding. The edges are the issue: a fine light line runs along much of the right edge and across the top-right corner, visible as edge whitening against the dark print. The left and bottom edges are cleaner. The heavy grunge and speckle across the front is intentional design, but there are also a couple of faint thin dark diagonal hairlines in the light grey area at the left that may be light surface scratches rather than print — worth confirming in hand. The back is clean and bright. Near Mint at best; the right-edge whitening could pull it to EX-MT for a grader. |
