Chrome vs Paper — And An Honest Confidence Note

**That this is the Chrome and not the paper base is settled**, and unusually well evidenced because the paper copy of the same card number is in this same batch and was measured side by side: different Topps product code (**CMP117700** here versus **CMP117878** on the paper), a smooth coated white border (RGB 236/241/234) against the paper's fibrous cream (247/246/233), genuinely dark photo blacks (dark-region RGB 79/74/65 against the paper's 157/144/117), and visible chrome mottling around the foil Heritage logo. **Plain Chrome rather than a Chrome Refractor is a strong call at roughly 80%, not a certainty, and I would rather say so than overstate it.** The evidence for plain Chrome: the border is white and neutral, which eliminates every bordered refractor tier (/150, /99, /76, /50, /25, /5); at 6x saturation the border renders flat warm-neutral with **zero prismatic banding**, where a Chrome Refractor shows rainbow diffraction under that test; there are no sparkle flecks in the dark field, ruling out the Light Blue Sparkle Refractor; and there is **no serial number anywhere**, which eliminates every numbered tier and the 1/1 Superfractor. The full back was tiled and enlarged and 130 px strips run along all four edges of both sides to confirm that. Heritage Chrome backs reproduce the vintage paper back verbatim with no parallel word, so the product code is the only back-side discriminator. **Not a short print:** #590 is regular High Number base; the SP tail is #701-725.
