Mikiya Tanaka was Chunichi's sixth-round pick in the 2022 draft out of Asia University, where he stole 48 bases and once took six in a single game to tie a Tohto League record. At 166 cm he is one of the smallest regulars in NPB, and he was the first sixth-round Chunichi rookie in 31 years handed a single-digit uniform number. He started Opening Day 2024 batting second and singled in his first professional at-bat, finishing the year at .224 over 112 games. 2024 Topps 206 NPB rebuilds the classic 1909 T206 tobacco-card design around Nippon Professional Baseball. The Mini is the format that takes the homage furthest: it is printed at the actual size of a 1909 T206 tobacco card, roughly 1 1/2 by 2 3/4 inches, noticeably smaller than the standard card. Minis are pulled far less often than the standard base cards and are the version set builders chase.
