Gabriel Arias signed with **San Diego out of La Victoria, Venezuela, in July 2016 for $1.9 million** as a 16-year-old, and came to Cleveland on **August 31, 2020 in the nine-player Mike Clevinger trade** — the deal that also brought Josh Naylor, Cal Quantrill, Austin Hedges, Owen Miller and Joey Cantillo. Scouts have always led with the glove: **"plus-plus range with a cannon for an arm."** **2025 was his best year by volume — career highs of 129 games, 11 home runs and 54 RBI.** He is still in Cleveland in 2026, back from a hamstring strain that cost him April and May. **This is the Rookie Debut card, and the back tells the story the front doesn't.** It reads that Arias "took his first swings as the **29th man** added for the **4/20/22 doubleheader against the White Sox**" — which matches his verified major league debut date exactly. The 29th man is the extra roster spot a club may carry for a doubleheader, so his first day in the majors came on a temporary add. Unnumbered by Design — and Which Purple This Is

**This parallel is unnumbered, and that is correct rather than an omission.** The 2022 Topps Chrome **Update** Purple Refractor is the one colour in the product that carries no serial — it falls roughly one per hobby pack. Every other colour is numbered: Refractor /299, Aqua /250, Blue /199, X-Fractor /99, Green /75, Gold /50, Red /25, SuperFractor 1/1. All four edges of both sides were checked at magnification: **no serial, verified.** **One thing to know before you buy, because buyers confuse them:** the 2022 Topps Chrome **flagship** Purple Refractor is a *different card* and **is** serial numbered. This is the **Update Series** card — note the **USC** prefix on the card number. Solid purple border with the Chrome starburst pattern band top and bottom, refractor sheen through the photo, glossy chrome back. **Rookie Card shield present.** The back prints "USC14 / CHROME". Not a short print — 2022 Topps Chrome Update is a straight 200-card set, USC1–USC200, with no SPs and no image variations. Centering, measured against the purple border width from the card edge to the inner white/red frame rule: **60/40 left-to-right, 41/59 top-to-bottom.** The top and bottom borders are wider than the sides *by design* — confirmed by cross-checking the axis totals against the other Update purple refractor in this batch — but the 60/40 horizontal is a genuine shift, tight on the right, and it is quoted rather than rounded off.
