Why This Card Matters

This is Ritchie’s first Bowman card, printed the summer Atlanta drafted him. The back records the draft: first round, 2022, 35th overall, signed 7-22-22, with MLB.com rating him the No. 47 prospect in that draft class and Perfect Game calling him the top-ranked talent in Washington state and a 2021 PG All-American. The scouting panel describes a zone-filler with four reliable weapons — a low-to-mid-90s fastball that skims 97 mph, a downer curve, a darting slider and a deceptive change-up — who can work backwards. The Up Close note is the memorable one: he became the first player in 32 years drafted out of Bainbridge Island, a Washington town of about 25,000, and had planned to attend UCLA. The stat table is blank because he had not yet thrown a professional pitch.

1st Edition — Look for the Stamp, Not the Number

1st Edition is a separate, scarcer product from standard 2022 Bowman Draft, and the two share the same BD- numbering and the same design. The only reliable tell is the “1st edition” roundel at the lower left of the front, which this card has, alongside the 1st Bowman logo top right. Not the Sky Blue Foil, Blue Foil /150, Gold Foil /50, Yellow Foil /75, Green /99, Purple /250, Orange /25 or Aqua /199, and not a BDC- Sapphire chrome card.
