Why This Card Matters
This insert exists to mark one season, and the back says which: Maddux won the National League Cy Young Award for 1992, led the senior circuit with 268 innings pitched while tying for the lead with 20 wins and 35 games started, went 10-3 with a 1.93 ERA after the All-Star break, and struck out ten on July 27. He signed with Atlanta as a free agent on 12-09-92, so this card catches him at the exact hinge between the Cubs years and the Braves dynasty. The back is printed in full English and French, which is what makes O-Pee-Chee its own collecting category rather than a Topps reprint.

| Condition | Raw, ungraded, and honestly the weakest card in this batch for edges. Centering measures about 44/56 left to right off the inner photo frame, which is acceptable. The two top corners show small white chips where the gold ink has flaked at the very tip; the bottom corners are better but not perfectly sharp. There is visible white flecking and chipping along the top edge of the gold front border and matching chipping at the top-left of the green back border — the classic dark-border ink chipping this issue is prone to, plainly visible at moderate zoom. Surface is otherwise flat and clean with no creases, scratches or writing. |

The Star Performers insert is numbered separately from the 132-card base set, so #19 here is not the base card #19.
