Why This Card Matters
Earl Averill Jr. was born September 9, 1931 in Snohomish, Washington, and this 1959 Topps card is his rookie issue after a 1958 debut with Cleveland - the back shows two major-league seasons totalling 59 games and a .216 average before the Cubs picked him up. The card's cartoon panel makes the family connection explicit: his father, Earl Averill Sr., was a Hall of Fame outfielder, and the back notes he was setting his sights on the Wrigley Field walls. The 1959 design, with its coloured circle portrait on a solid background, is one of the most recognisable in the vintage era. The signature printed across the photo is a facsimile that appears on every card in the set, not an autograph.

Market-Informed Pricing
Priced from the Market Movers comp tab using verified Buy It Now sold comps only. Four raw fixed-price sales landed inside the 30-day window - and usefully, most of them were themselves described as EX or VG/EX copies, so the comp set is broadly condition-matched to this card rather than assuming Near Mint. Their $2.12 average plus the 8% Best Offer premium puts the list price at $2.29, with auto-accept at 90% and the offer floor at 70%.
