Why This Card Matters

Logan was the everyday shortstop on the Milwaukee Braves teams that would win the 1957 World Series, and this card catches him coming off his breakout. The back notes he topped the National League shortstops in fielding for the second straight year in 1953, a season in which he played 150 games with 167 hits, 27 doubles, 11 home runs, 73 RBI and a .273 average, handling 481 assists against 20 errors for a .975 fielding mark. After returning from military service he broke in with Evansville in 1947 and hit .331. The "Inside Baseball" cartoons add that although he was not a power hitter he was feared by pitchers, and that he broke up two no-hitters with late-inning hits in the American Association in 1950. This is a seventy-two-year-old card from one of the most collected sets Topps ever produced.

Condition Raw, ungraded, and well played — please read this and study both scans before buying. Centering is poor: roughly 17/83 left to right, and vertically the yellow design runs off the top edge, so the card is cut into the design at the top. All four corners are soft and blunted with visible fibre fraying — no sharp points remain on either side, and the back top-right corner is rounded with a small dark ding at the tip. There is roughness and fibre lift along the top and right edges of the front, and green-ink chipping with white showing through along the left edge and bottom band of the back. The surface shows a dense network of fine scratches in the navy cap area at high zoom, plus a short fine light line across the face at eyebrow level that reads as a light surface crease or scratch. The back is toned tan/cream with scattered dark foxing specks. There is no writing, no tape and no pinholes. The small circular white spot in the yellow at upper right is a factory registration void, not damage. This is priced as a well-played filler copy, not as a clean one.

Market-Informed Pricing

Priced against condition-appropriate sold comps rather than the clean copies that dominate the sales record. The comp pool for this card is largely EX and better, and this copy is not — the price reflects that honestly.

Professional Imaging

High-resolution scans and photos so you can inspect corners, edges, surface, and centering yourself. What you see is what you get.

Secure Shipping

Penny sleeve, top loader or card saver, team bag, and rigid protection in every shipment. Packed right, shipped fast, from a smoke-free environment.

Original 1954 Topps — Not the 1994 Archives Reprint

This is an original 1954 Topps card, with "© T.C.G. Printed in U.S.A." running vertically up the right edge of the back. Topps reissued this design in 1994 as Topps Archives, using the same player and the same card number, and those reprints trade around a dollar. This is not one of them. The printed "John Logan Jr." signature on the front is a facsimile, part of the original design, and not a real autograph.
